The good news is that both inkjet and laser printers can be used for printable vinyl, whether clear or matte. Let’s take a closer look about these two printer types and how you can use them to make the best waterproof sticker on your own.
Vinyl sticker paper are generally 8.5" x 11" in size and come in a variety of finishes, which you can choose depending on what you need. These options are all inkjet and laser printer friendly. After printing your design on it, all there’s left to do is cut it out and apply on any smooth surface.
Using Inkjet for Printable Sticker Paper
For most people at home, they would have an inkjet printer as it is the more popular and traditional choice amongst the two. This kind of printer uses ink and is better suited for low-volume operations. While most printable vinyl can be used on an inkjet printer, we still recommend double checking that you have the right type.
The printable vinyl glue on your sticker paper will absorb the printer ink and make it water resistant. This is definitely a plus point if you want to apply the finished vinyl on your car, bike, helmet, or other outdoor gear!
If you are looking for specific brands, household names like Epson, HP, Canon, and Brother would be compatible. Just make sure that the ink is dye-based.
Laser Printers for Printable Vinyl
On the other hand, laser printers are what you might find in an office or commercial environment. They use toner instead of ink and can print higher volumes of documents in less time. This printer is mostly used for documents and texts. So, while they can technically print on vinyl paper, you will still get better quality photo-based results on an inkjet printer.
Laser printers work by rolling their toners on the paper surface. It is less common to use them for printable vinyl, so make sure that your sticker paper is suitable for this printer type.
